Many people claimed that ghost and spooks are scary..
However, when you question them further,
it seem that there are no reasonable reason to be afraid of ghost.
Here how i asked my friend:
Why do you afraid of ghost?
Ghost are scary.
Why are they scary?
They scare us.
Why are you afraid of them?(leads back to same question…sigh)
That is because they are scary la…XD(same answer…)
Why is it so scary and scare people?Do you see one before?
No. But i am still afraid of it..
Isn’t it funny to be terrified by something
that you cannot even confirm that it exist?
What can ghost do to you?
Kill you? Torture you? or hurt you?
I believe that it is true that ghost can hurt you mentally but not physically.
Those who claim that they will be killed by ghost have probably watched too much ghost movies. Those ghost are not that scary at all. If you close the sound and play the movie slowly..I am sure that the story will not be that fearful. Thus, i can conclude that its the audio and visual effects or the of sudden appearing of the ghost that makes the movie terrifying.
However, there are some exceptional cases for movies that involves breaking of body parts and bleeding. I believe that every one will be afraid of that as we are human being that merciful. Even that normal villains instead of the ghost are killing and tearing people apart, it is scary as well.
From the previous two paragraph, a small conclusion can be made.
Ghost are not scary. They are just being made to be fearful so that the movie can get a high sales on tickets.
Back to my first statement. Why do ghost hurt us mentally?

Simple, ppl afraid of ghost, because ghost is perceived by all of us as some sort of super natural spirit that has the ability TO APPEAR just ANYTIME and ANYWHERE…well, i think u already reveal the answer, – the sudden appearance, that’s the scary part, not to mention the looks of the ghost which often portrayed as ‘horror looks’.
But, mostly is the SUDDEN APPEARANCE that cause the impact of fear.
Think of it this way, u r sleeping soundly in ur room and woke up suddenly at night, finding someone standing by ur bed, and staring at you, the moonlight pouring from the window just enough to reveal the person’s face….how’d u feel in the at that particular moment ?
I think most normal person will be terrified at that instant….again, because of the sudden appearance of something that our mind didn’t expect.
